Bubbles

It’s bubble time!!! For an easy activity that will bring a smile to your child, try making homemade bubbles.

What You Need
Instructions

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup dishwashing liquid

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 cup water

Other Items:

  • Plastic container with a lid

  • Pipe Cleaners

1. Mix the dishwashing liquid, sugar, and water in a plastic container to make a bubble mixture.

2. Form pipe cleaners into different shapes (such as a circle, square, or diamond).

3. Attach the pipe cleaner to an unsharpened pencil to make a bubble wand.

4. Dip bubble wand into the liquid mixture.

5. Blow on the wand gently to make bubbles and have fun!

6. Cover plastic container with a lid to save any bubble mixture for later.

Homemade Finger Paint

What You Need
Instructions

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour

  • 4 cups cold water

  • Food coloring

Other Items:

  • 1 saucepan

  • Small bowls
    (one for each color you want to make)

1. Combine flour and 1 cup of water and stir until smooth in a saucepan.

2. Add remaining 3 cups of water.

3. Turn stove to medium heat.

4. Stir constantly until mixture thickens and bubbles.

5. Reduce heat.

6. Cook and stir one more minute.

7. Pour part of mixture into each small bowl and add a food coloring until you have all of the colors you want.

8. Cover with plastic wrap until the paint is cool enough to use.

Music Bank

A music bank can be used to teach your child to save money or just to make wonderful sounds.

What You Need
Instructions
  • Can with a plastic lid

  • A cutting knife

  • Coins

1. Have an adult cut a two-inch long and one-fourth-inch wide slit in the plastic lid.

2. Have child drop coins through the slit into the can.

3. Shake away and listen to the fun noise!

Play Dough

What You Need
Instructions

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1-1/2 cup water

  • 1 cup salt

  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Other Items:

  • 1 saucepan

  • 1 airtight container or plastic bag

1. Mix all of the ingredients in a saucepan.

2. Turn stove to medium heat.

3. Stir constantly until mixture looks like dough.

4. Use the play dough to make fun shapes and designs.

5. Store in an airtight container or plastic bag for later use.

Puff Paint

What You Need
Instructions

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • 1 cup water

Other Items:

  • 1 bowl

  • Tempera paint powder*

  • Plastic squeeze bottle


* Look for at your local craft store, or where craft materials are sold.

1. Stir flour, salt, and water together in a bowl.

2. Add several teaspoons of tempera paint.

3. Stir and pour into a clean squeeze bottle.

4. Use paint within two to three days.

Scratch and Sniff Paints

What You Need
Instructions

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of each unsweetened powdered drink mix you desire (such as sugar free Kool-aid)

  • 1 tablespoon warm water

Other Items:

  • Several small bowls

1. Mix water and one flavor of drink mix in a small bowl.

2. Repeat Step 1 using each of the different flavors of drink mix to create different smells and paint colors.

3. Paint on a chosen surface.

4. Let finished work dry overnight before scratching and sniffing.

Sidewalk Chalk

What You Need
Instructions

Ingredients:

  • ·2 tablespoons tempera paint*

  • ½ cup water

  • 3 tablespoons plaster of Paris*

Other Items:

  • 5 oz paper cup

* Look for at your local craft store, or where craft materials are sold.

1. In a five-ounce paper cup, mix tempera paint with water.

2. Add plaster of Paris.

3. Stir until you have a creamy consistency.

4. Wait until hardened. This may take several hours.

5. Peel off paper cup to produce a giant piece of sidewalk chalk.
