Suicide is a major public health problem in Utah. According to the Utah Department of Health,

  • Suicide is the 8th leading cause of death for Utahns1
  • Every day in Utah, two youth, two young adults, two adult men, and four adult women are treated for suicide attempts2

Do you know the warning signs of suicide?
There are many warning signs that indicate a person may be contemplating suicide, including:

  • Suicide threats
  • Previous suicide attempts
  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Statements revealing a desire to die
  • Sudden changes in behavior
  • Prolonged depression
  • Making final arrangements
  • Giving away prized possessions
  • Purchasing a gun or stockpiling pills

If you or someone you know is exhibiting these warning signs, get help immediately. Call 911 or Utah County Crisis Line at 801-691-LIFE (5433).

QPR Gatekeeper Trainings
Individuals trained as QPR Gatekeepers can help those who may be considering suicide by learning to recognize the warning signs of suicide and then responding with three steps.
QPR stands for

  • Question a person about suicide
  • Persuade the person to get help
  • Refer the person to the appropriate resource for help
