Mortensen Murder Investigation

The Utah County Sheriff Office is asking for the publics help in locating stolen or sold firearms.

On November 16th, 2009 Kay Mortensen was murdered in his home in Payson Canyon, Utah County. Kay’s family is offering a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.

Approximately 32 guns and or rifles were discovered missing from the home at the time of the murder. Investigators believe these firearms may have been sold or traded during the last 2 years. The firearms may have been obtained through perceived legitimate circumstances. Attached is a list of the stolen firearms.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating any of these firearms. All firearms have been listed as stolen. We are asking the public to check the serial numbers of firearms purchased within the last two years that match the attached list. You may have purchased one or more of these guns not knowing they were stolen. We believe that this information is critical to an ongoing murder investigation.
