SIDS - Sudden Infant Death SyndromeSudden Infant Death Syndrome (or SIDS) is defined as the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of an infant under one year of age. With the introduction and implementation of the "Back to Sleep" campaign, the number of infants dying of SIDS has fluctuated over the past four years. There is still much that is not known about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Registered nurses go into the homes of these families and help them through the grieving period by providing information and support. A questionnaire is filled out by the nurse and the family and this information is sent to the State SIDS program to help the further research to decrease the number of infants dying from SIDS.
