Success by Six Welcome Baby ProgramWelcoming a baby into the world is one of the most challenging experiences a family will have and becoming a parent is their most important job. A parent is the child's first and best teacher. Feelings of excitement and anticipation as well as anxiety and uncertainty are common among parents. The first few years in a baby's life provide a foundation for the future. Parents play a vital role in a child's growth and development. Many parents desire support, information and a connection to the community. Welcome Baby is a home visitor program committed to helping new parents face the uncertainties that come from raising a child. Registered nurses from the Health Department and trained volunteers from the community visit parents in their homes to give support, teaching and parenting information. The Welcome Baby program can help parents feel more secure and confident as they begin this new adventure by providing valuable information in the following areas:
A healthy beginning Your child's health is probably one of your greatest concerns. As you were preparing for your role as a parent, one of the things you wished for was a healthy baby. As you meet with your home visitor, you will explore the numerous ways to ensure your child is as healthy as possible. Knowledgeable parenting If you are a first-time parent, this is a totally new experience for you. But whether this is your first child or your third, there are always questions to be answered. Each child is unique and brings new challenges. To help you better understand and meet the needs of your child, your home visitor will provide you with information on developmental milestones, infant cues and sleep states, your child's brain and how to stimulate learning, parent-child relationship, proper nutrition, trust and attachment, safety and discipline. Family stability Each family is unique. Some families have a large support network made up of friends and relatives; others are somewhat isolated and have few contacts. Along with your home visitor, you can explore your family resources and determine your areas of strength and the areas in which you may need added support.
