2010 Ranch Rodeo

August 20, 2010 - Fairgrounds at Spanish Fork

7:00 p.m. - Free Admission

Each team will consist of four members. After the Ranch Rodeo events, the team with the least amount of time wins!

Dress Code

Cowboy boots, hat, long sleeve shirt with collar. No ball caps or t-shirts.

Rules

  1. Split Reins only (no roping reins).
  2. No rubber on saddle horn (mule hide may be used).
  3. No tie downs. If using one of the above during your run there will be a 30 second penalty added to each run. Any abusing of livestock may result in a disqualification.

Big Loop Team Roping

Each team will provide 2 headers and 2 heelers. Two members from each team will run at a time, using an 18 foot loop. No barriers will be used. The time will begin when the steer passes the barrel. The judge will start the time. Each team has a time limit of 60 seconds to complete a legal run, or through three loops. If the run is not completed in less than 60 seconds, the team will receive a time of 60 seconds per run (If no legal catches are made between the four members, the team will receive a total time of 120 seconds for this event.) Time will stop when heeler’s rope comes tight. No facing required. Only three loops may be used. Ropers may switch ends at any time during there run. A five second penalty will be added for leg. Legal head catches only.

Wild Horse Roping

Two wild horses per team will be released into the arena, only one team in arena at a time. Team will remain in the center of the arena. The time will start when the horses are let out. Once the time starts, members will be given 40 seconds to rope either horse around the head (no dallying, just pull slack and release rope). Each rope placed legally over either horses head (no feet) will deduct five seconds from the team’s total time. If each team member legally places there loop over either horses head there will be a total deduction of 20 seconds, which may allow a team to have a total time of 20 seconds for this event. If all four loops are placed legally before 40 seconds time will stop but, team will still receive a total time of 20 seconds. If neither horse is roped before the 40 second time limit, team will receive a total time of 40 seconds.

Example: If only two members from the four man team legally rope either horse they will get 10 seconds deducted from there total time, Thus receiving a time of 30 seconds for this event( five seconds deducted for each legally catch).

Mugging

Cows will be released into the arena before the time will start. Only one team member will be mounted on horseback, and the other team members will be muggers in the arena. When the time starts the mounted cowboy must sort out and rope the animal according to the color/number called out by the judges. The cows in the arena will be marked with different colors/numbers. Once the animal is caught the muggers must tie three of the legs together. (Teams must provide their own tie ropes). The time will stop when the legs are tied and all team members raise their hands in the air. The cow must remain tied for six seconds. (If the cow gets untied before the six seconds, or stands up the team will get an added 30 seconds to their time.) The muggers may assist the roper at any time throughout the run. There will be no steer tripping allowed. There will be a four minute time limit for this event. If the team cannot complete this event in less than four minutes they will receive 240 seconds added to there time.

Team Doctoring

Your four man team will ride into the arena all on horseback. There will be a herd of cattle in the arena. When the time starts you will be given a color or number which will be marked on the cattle. The team must sort out that color and rope the head first. Once the head is caught you may then rope the back feet. Once the back feet or foot is caught the team must move the rope from the head to the 2 front feet and 2 back feet, keeping the ropes tight. Once the cow is tight and all members on horseback, the time will stop. ( Both front feet and back feet must be in the loop before the time will stop) There will be a four minute time limit for this event. If the team cannot complete this event in less than four minutes they will receive 240 seconds added to there time.
